"Open drain" is the MOSFET equivalent of "open collector" for a BJT.

As I said above the working of a LDO voltage regulator is similar to the working of an ordinary linear voltage regulator and the only difference is in the schematic topology of their internal circuitry. Ordinary linear regulators (7805, LM117, LM317 etc) uses a common collector scheme while the LDO regulators use an open collector (termed as open drain if a MOSFET is used as the series pass element) scheme.

Even though open drainage systems offer very simple solutions for conduction they bear many risks for public and the environment due to the risk of illegal discharge of and . Therefore, if possible, they should be applied only where an adequate and as well as a are provided.

I do believe that this would be “Grandfathered” in but that may vary with location (City, state). It is at times permissible to have fixtures drain into one location like this but there should be an air gap off of each drain. Otherwise, instead of the drain resting on the floor where a backup in the floor drain could run into the fixture drains an air gap would prevent the backup from going into the fixture drains.

Can I assume that "open drain" is the same as "open collector"?

Pin 14 and 15 is the bus clock and data line. (Note that I2C data lines are open drain output). One of the advantages of using I2C bus for this chip is that you can control eight different ICs by manipulating pin 1,2,3, yet still using only two data lines. This is also the special features of I2C where you can control up to 128 devices on the same bus with 7 bit addressing.(If you not sure what I meant about the I2C addressing and the 128 devices , refer to the table below)
